Eligibility for South Australian subsidised training will be assessed by ETEA before enrolment and is subject to Skills SA Participant Eligibility Criteria, course availability and ETEA enrolment requirements.
As a general guide, you may be eligible for subsidised training if you live or work in South Australia and:
- are an Australian citizen; or
- are a New Zealand citizen; or
- are a permanent Australian resident; or
- hold a state sponsored visa on a pathway to permanent residency.
You must also generally be 16 years or over and not enrolled at school. Separate eligibility criteria may apply for school-enrolled students.
Your eligibility may also depend on course conditions, your individual circumstances, concession or exemption eligibility and Skills SA requirements. ETEA will confirm your eligibility and fees before enrolment.

Concessions, Fee Exemptions and Incidental Fees
Concession Eligibility
Eligible students undertaking South Australian subsidised training may be eligible for a concession fee if they hold an eligible concession card or meet other Skills SA concession criteria.
Concession eligibility may include students who:
- hold a Health Care Card;
- hold a Pensioner Concession Card;
- hold a Veteran’s Affairs Card;
- are in a South Australian detention centre and between 16 and 18 years of age; or
- are a prisoner in a South Australian correctional institution.
Concession eligibility and the applicable concession fee will be confirmed by ETEA before enrolment.
Fee Exemptions
A fee exemption may be available for eligible students who are, or have been, under a Guardianship Order in Australia and are 16 years or older. Fee exemption eligibility will be assessed and confirmed before enrolment.
Incidental Fees and Additional Costs
The SA subsidised participant fee listed above covers the course tuition/student contribution fee only. Additional incidental fees or third-party costs may apply depending on the course, placement provider requirements and the student’s individual circumstances.
Incidental fees or additional costs may include, where applicable:
- National Police Check;
- Working with Children Check;
- NDIS Worker Screening Check;
- First Aid and/or CPR requirements;
- immunisation or health evidence required for placement;
- uniforms, closed shoes or personal protective equipment;
- textbooks, learner resources or online resources;
- transport to and from work placement;
- placement compliance documents or checks required by host employers or placement providers.
These incidental costs are not included in the SA subsidised participant fee unless expressly stated. ETEA will confirm all known course fees, concession or exemption eligibility, and any applicable incidental fees or additional costs before enrolment.
