AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology

This course is for people working in the automotive industry who want a career as an automotive light vehicle mechanic. Students will learn how to service, repair and diagnose faults in motor vehicles weighing up to 4.5 tonnes. Students will learn how to diagnose service and repair faults in light vehicle engines, transmissions, suspensions, steering, brakes and electrical systems and components.

RTO requirements

Training and assessments are conducted in English. Applicants must possess sound written and oral English skills. You will be required to complete a Pre-training and Language Literacy and Numeracy Assessment.

Training Package

There are no pre-requisite or any other training package entry requirements to enrol in this course.

  • International: typically this course will be delivered approximately over 70 weeks including 10 weeks of break.  (All the course for International students are run over 2.5 days for a minimum of 20 hours per week)
  • Domestic: 60 weeks   (may vary depending on the cohort and industry requirements)
  • 20 hours per week (fulltime delivery).
  • You will be expected to put in 5 to 6 hours per week of self paced learning when you enrol in a fulltime course.
  • The duration of the course may vary based on the mode of delivery i.e. classroom based, apprenticeship, workbased, fulltime or partime, etc.

Pathways into the qualification

Credit may be granted towards this qualification by those who have completed AUR20512 Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology, AUR20712 Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation or other relevant qualifications.

Pathways from the qualification

Further training pathways from this qualification include AUR40212 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis, AUR40812 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Overhauling or other relevant qualifications.

Employment or occupational pathway

This course is intended to prepare new employees or recognise and develop existing workers performing mechanical work in the automotive heavy commercial vehicle service and repair sector. Occupational title for this position is Automotive Mechanic.
